With this super fun crochet pattern, Christmas doesn’t need to be about ‘bored’ games and eating naughty food when you can take this set with you where ever you go (if we’re allowed to go anywhere!). It’s the best fun entertainment for all ages and is great exercise too!
The pattern includes how to make the snowballs AND the perfect sized bag to keep them! It is written in both US and UK terminology, and both versions are provided on purchase, just choose to download which one is best for you.

The snowballs are lovely and soft so even the little family members can play without getting hurt. You might want to move any breakables first though!
The bag also makes an ideal reusable eco-friendly gift bag.
You can substitute any aran weight yarn for the bag, however your measurements may vary slightly from those stated in the pattern. Your tension may also affect this. It shouldn’t matter though.
For best results for the snowballs use the suggested or similar yarn. The yarn for the bag can be any of the same weight.
Skill Level:
Snowballs: Experienced/Advanced Beginner and Bag: Intermediate
Knowledge Required:
- How to do the basic crochet stitches of chain, slip stitch, single crochet (UK Double crochet) and double crochet (UK treble).
- How to decrease 2 stitches together (optional yarn under method).
- How to work in the back loop.
- How to change colour and carry yarn
- How to do a Bobble stitch (explained in the pattern).
Sizes/Finished Measurements:
Snowball: Approx. 3”
Bag: Approx. 12” wide by 15” length
Materials Needed:
James C Brett Flutterby Chunky 100g (makes 11-12 snowballs, you may need 2 skeins if making for a bigger family)
King Cole Recycled Cotton Aran (now discontinued) approx. 265-350 yards (150g).
Substitute yarns: Paintbox Cotton Aran or Rico Creative Cotton Aran both have a lovely red. If you want to be ecofriendly too, alternative recycled cotton yarns are LionBrand Re-Up, Hoooked Soft Cotton or Paintbox Recycled Cotton Worsted.
You could use really any aran weight #4 yarn, acrylic may come out a little bit bigger.
Size 5mm (H) crochet hook
Locking Stitch marker
Blunt embroidery/knitters sewing needle
