Easy Suzette Stitch Mug Cozy Free Crochet Pattern

Free easy Mug Cozy crochet pattern
Spread the love

I love a hot cup of tea, but as soon as there’s a chill in the air, it goes cold so fast! That’s when a good crochet mug cozy is a godsend!

I wanted a cozy feel that wasn’t too bulky and it had to look good and be usable too. I designed the Suzette Stitch crochet Mug Cozy to keep your hot drink warmer for longer, feel cozy to hold and look great too!

I chose the Suzette stitch for it’s lovely texture and cozy feel and because it’s such an easy stitch to do. If you can made a single crochet (UK Double crochet) and a double crochet (UK Treble), then you can make the Suzette stitch! It is also easy to adapt for other sizes.

Notes

  1. This cozy has been designed to fit a mug measuring 3.3”/8.5cm diameter (10.4”/26.5cm circumference). Measure your mug to ensure the cozy will fit. To decrease/increase size of finished cozy, decrease/increase the starting number of chains (even number) and number of rows to suit.
  2. Turning Ch does NOT count as a stitch
  3. Use stitch marker to mark 1st stitch in row if helpful.
  4. Stitch count is shown at the end of each row in bold.
  5. Check stitch count at the end of each row.

Gauge

2 Suzette stitch pairs x 3 rows = approx. 1”/ 2.5cm. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Special Stitches/Techniques

Suzette Stitch (also called Grit Stitch or Thicket Stitch) = a textured dense stitch made with both a sc and a dc in the same stitch, skipping the next stitch. After the first row of Suzette stitches, the stitch duo will always be made in the sc of the previous row.
