Welcome to the very first The Crafty Therapist Crochet Along (CAL)! It’s time for some much needed relaxing “me” time and that’s what all the patterns are about. We will be making four lovely patterns all with a Spa theme. They are all practical, usable items and we will be using them all at the end for a delicious Facial, complete with a professionally designed face and neck massage sequence.
September is a great time to pamper your skin in preparation for harsher weather and the drying air from central heating. But this year we will be strutting into Autumn with gorgeous glowing skin!
Please share this post with your crochet friends and Pin it if you use Pinterest.
Here’s how the CAL works:
It starts on Sunday 1st September 2024 and will run all month. Each Sunday a brand new pattern will be released, free on the website. I’ll post the details on Facebook/Instagram and send an email to email subscribers. We will work on each pattern for a week and share progress, questions etc in the Facebook Group. You can join below, please answer all the joining questions and agree to the group rules.
You can join in this CAL at any time, so don’t worry if it has already started when you read this. All of the patterns are easy and quick and all but 1 feature the gorgeous 2dc-cl stitch (go to tutorial). You can make the whole set or just the items you prefer. Help will always be available from within the group or directly from myself, so don’t hesitate to post or send me a message if you are stuck.
Here are the items we will be making (links go to the free pattern on the website):
- Calm Clusters Washcloth.
- Calm Clusters Face Scrubbies. Smooth on one side, perfect for make-up removal, and lightly textured on the other side for gentle exfoliation.
- Scrubby Wash Bag. Made using a mesh design for washing your scrubbies in the washing machine.
- Calm Clusters Hairband. Pretty and practical hairband with a simple tie fastening to keep your hair away from your face.
Do you prefer to work from a PDF? You can purchase the Ebook which offers exceptionally good value with all 4 patterns for the price of 3. The pattern PDFs are also available individually and the links are on the pattern posts.
Yarn Needed for this CAL
Any soft cotton #3 DK weight yarn, alternatively you may use a #4 weight but note the items will be a little bigger and with a denser material. The amount you need will depend on how many of the items you want to make and the yarn you use. Below you will find the amount I used for each of the items to give you a good idea of how much yarn you will need.
The yarn I used : Rico Essentials Organic Cotton DK (100% organic cotton) in shade 004 Pink and/or 005 Smokey Pink 115yds/105m per 1.76oz/50g.
Washcloth: Approx. 69yds/63m (1.06oz/30g) without border, 80.4yds/73.5m (1.24oz/35g) with border.
Scrubbies: Approx. 11.5yds/10.5m (0.18oz/5g) per Scrubby (You’ll need 3-4 for the Facial at the end of the CAL)
Scrubby Washbag: Approx. 41.3yds/37.8m (0.64oz/18g)
Hairband: Approx. 41.3yds/37.8m (0.64oz/18g)
To make 1 x Washcloth with border, 4 Scrubbies, 1 Scrubby Washbag, and 1 Hairband you will need: Approx. 198yards/181m (3.2oz/91g). You may use a more or less yarn, so it’s always best to buy 1 more ball than you think you will need, so you aren’t left short. So if you are using the same yarn as me, buy 3 x 1.76oz/50g balls.

Supplies needed for the Facial
To conclude this CAL we will use all the items we’ve made to give ourselves a lovely relaxing Facial. As a professional Massage Therapist, I’ve designed a facial massage sequence and neck massage to make the most of our Spa “me” time. For this you will need:
- Cleansing lotion or cream,
- 4 slices of fresh cucumber,
- Facial grade massage oil or moisturiser that doesn’t sink in quickly,
- Calm Clusters Face Scrubbies x 3-4
- Face Scrubby Washbag (for washing afterwards)
- Calm Clusters Washcloth x 1
- Calm Clusters hairband x 1
Are you excited? I am and I can’t wait to see all your makes.
Don’t forget to join my email list if you haven’t already.

Will you have a pdf as I can’t stay online long enough to crochet due to an eye condition, I can only do the cal if I can print and read on flat paper it’s to do with pixels and moving lights. I don’t mind buying what’s on the screen that others do just needs to be printable
Yes there will be PDFs for each pattern. The 1st one is in a blog hop on 5th Sept so you can get that free.
