Disclaimer: I am a professional Massage Therapist and have developed this spa facial and massage to be suitable for all, you don’t need any massage experience. However if you have any medical or skin conditions, facial/neck inflammation, injuries, pain or swelling then you are advised to seek medical advice before massaging. For minor, localised issues eg a cut, spot or bruise, please avoid it. If you have sensitive or allergy prone skin, only use familiar products on your skin and use light pressure. If any discomfort, irritation or itching occurs, stop and wash face in clean water.

This spa facial is a complete Facial and full massage with 3 sequences for the face and neck. For the full relaxing Spa experience you will want to follow each step. But you don’t have to. You can choose which stages to complete. I recommend bookmarking this post so you can return whenever you want. Sometimes you may just want to do the facial. Or you may want to do the neck massage more frequently. It’s up to you to enjoy it to fit your own needs.

I have made a video with the complete facial and massage, you will find the link at the bottom of this post. Please read through this post first so you know what you need and have an idea of what to expect. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy it more following along with the video.

What you will need for this spa facial:

If you don’t have the Calm Clusters Spa Crochet set, you can use any other crochet or fabric scrubbies or facecloth and a hairband. I use a gorgeous natural oil and essential oil based product called Beauty Balm by UK company Lyonsleaf. It is wonderful as both a cleanser and moisturiser with no nasties in at all. They also make one without essential oils for very sensitive skin. I’m not affiliated in any way, I just love their products. You can use your usual face products.

  1. 2-4 slices of fresh cucumber and a bowl to put them in. (alternatively you may use face scrubbies that have been placed in cold water)
  2. Calm Clusters hairband x 1
  3. Calm Clusters Face Scrubbies x 3 or 4 (1 or 2 for cleansing & exfoliating, 2 for cucumber eye soother)
  4. Face Scrubby Washbag (for washing afterwards if using)
  5. Calm Clusters Washcloth x 1
  6. Cleansing lotion or cream,
  7. Facial grade massage oil or moisturiser that doesn’t sink in quickly,
  8. Clean Towel

Begin with preparing your clothing and space. You will want to wear clothing for relaxing in, that is open around the neck area with no high neckline or collars. This is so you can massage your neck freely. Where do you want to do your spa facial? It doesn’t have to be all in the bathroom. You may wish to lie down to relax with cucumber on your eyes after cleansing your face. It’s up to you.

If you live with other people, ask them to give you this interrupted time of 15 minutes or so, longer if you want to relax afterwards to enjoy the benefits more.

Before beginning your spa facial, declutter your sink area to create a calm spa space for all the things you need. You may wish to light a candle or have some gentle music playing, to create a peaceful ambiance.

Place the cucumber slices in a small bowl with very cold water. Take this to your spa space with all your supplies. Place 2 clean face scrubbies into the bowl with the cucumber. Ensure they are all covered with cold water.

  1. Wash and dry your hands.
  2. Begin with putting a hairband on to ensure your hair is off your face.
  3. Cleanse to remove make-up and start with clean skin: wet scrubby or facecloth, apply cleanser either directly to your face and neck or to the wet face scrubby or facecloth. Sweep scrubby/facecloth over face using circular movements to remove make-up, using a little firmer pressure for heavier make-up as needed. Rinse and repeat until all make-up is removed. Pat face dry. Rinse scrubby/facecloth in clean water, Squeeze excess water out and place into washbag for washing or leave to dry.
  4. Exfoliate. Using a clean wet scrubby (exfoliation side if it has one), or a facecloth, gently exfoliate starting from your neck and upper chest. Rinse. Work all around jaw and chin, rinse. Work over both cheeks, rinse. Work all across forehead, rinse. Finish with nose area. Rinse in clean water, Squeeze excess water out and place into washbag for washing or leave to dry as you would a face cloth.
  5. Rinse Washcloth in warm to hand-hot water. Squeeze excess water out. Place facecloth over face and hold for a minute or so. You can take some deep breaths as you do this.
  6. Repeat for neck and upper chest.
  7. Cucumber eye soother. You may skip this step and go to either massage or moisturise, if you don’t have cucumber or don’t wish to include it. Cucumber is very soothing for tired, puffy or irritated eyes. You may wish to lie down for this stage or hold them in place. Alternatively just use cold face scrubbies, the cold water will still sooth a little without cucumber. Remove face scrubbies, squeeze excess water out, place on side of sink, remove 2 slides of cucumber, shake off excess water. Tip head lightly backward, place one on first eye with face scrubby on top and repeat for other eye. Leave in place for a minute or two, holding if needed to reduce any pressure on neck. If lying down you may stay as long as you wish at this stage.
  8. Remove scrubbies and cucumber and repeat stage 5. Place scrubbies in washbag and discard cucumber.
  9. Massage 1 – Neck. Apply oil or your chosen moisturising product for massage, to hands, rub to warm in hands and apply to upper chest and neck with long upward sweeping movements. Repeat this sweeping movement several times. Working with a gentle pressure now move hands to either side of your neck, to feel the muscles of the neck. With circular movements, maintaining gentle pressure work up the sides of the neck to the base of the skull. Work outwards along this bony area to behind your ears. Work back down the neck and into the muscles at the top of the shoulders if you can comfortably reach. Repeat this neck massage 2 or 3 times as you prefer.
  10. Massage 2 – Face. Apply a little oil to your hands if needed, continue onto face now with shorter upward movements and across cheeks from edge of nose outward. Move up to forehead using upward and outward from centre sweeps. Repeat this sweeping movement over the face from chin to forehead a few times. Using your forefingers and thumbs, work using a pinching method across your jawline from just under ear, along jawline to other ear. Repeat 3 or 4 times or more if you prefer. Massage all around chin and jaw from centre out to ears using circular movements. Move up to cheeks, using large circular movements moving upwards and outwards over your cheeks and upper jaw. Relax your jaw as you work. Now move up to forehead, begin in the centre at your eyebrows, using all your finger sweep across from the centre outwards to temples forehead, repeat using small circles with your fingers. Work around hairline with fingers, from centre to edges, throughly work this area all around the temples and repeat as you need. Spend more time in areas that feel tight or where you feel it soothing.
  11. Massage 3: Sinuses. Move back to the centre at your eyebrows and press as you work across the brow bone using a gentle pressure. If you have sinus or congestion issues this is may feel tender so start lightly, continue to work along cheek bones in towards the nose. Work into the area beside either side of the nose with circular movements. Repeat as you prefer. This is a helpful sequence for sinus problems. Finish with the sweeping movements again all over the face, working from the forehead down to the neck. Sweep down both sides of the neck and across chest into the centre. This completes your massage.
  12. Wash hands and repeat step 5 with a warm facecloth to remove the oil. Pat face dry.
  13. Moisturise. Finish with applying moisturiser to neck and face using gentle upward sweeping movements.
  14. If you haven’t already, rinse scrubbies and washcloth and squeeze water thoroughly out. Leave to air dry to wash when ready.
