Hello, I’m Janferie (Jan). I’m an eco Crochet Designer and Complementary (Natural) Therapist as well as Mum to 3 boys.
My passion is to create, and help you to create, more sustainably and consciously, so that everything we make helps our beautiful planet heal.
My craft is mainly Crochet, but I also make crystal jewellery, dabble in weaving and can knit some basic stitches too. I hope to add Spinning and Dyeing with plant dyes to my skills sometime too.
My Crochet Journey
I learned to crochet as a wee girl when my mum taught me to both knit and crochet. But both fell by the way side when teenage years arrived.
My love for crochet was reignited in 2010 when, during a period of intense bereavement from the loss of our baby, I found my childhood craft bag with a half finished baby blanket inside. I was powerfully drawn to finish it and in so doing found crochet to be an outstandingly peaceful, beautiful therapy to help heal my broken heart.
A reignited passion and dear friendship was rekindled, and has been with me every step of the way through an incredible family building journey. Now it’s a family adventure shared with my 3 wonderful boys who inspire me continuously with awesome ideas for more makes. As they grow, my design focus changes, and I’ve moved away more from toys and cute things onto more practical items they need like baskets and wearables. I can never have enough baskets for all their things.
In 2018 a deep connection for eco crafting was founded when the true reality of the extent of plastic pollution hit me. So my focus changed to really try make a difference. Most of my makes are made using entirely recycled materials and I have an ongoing bread bag mission where I encourage you to stop throwing this recyclable plastic in the bin and recycle with carrier bags, reuse them or even send them to me. Please get in touch if you’d like to get involved.
My patterns are available through Ravelry and LoveCrafts with free ones on this blog too you can find them on the Crochet Patterns page.
I have an eco-friendly crochet community group on Facebook that I’d love you to join. Head over to The Crafty Therapist Crochet Community for a friendly group all about crochet and being more eco-friendly.
If you don’t crochet, I am always delighted to make something eco-friendly and unique for you. So if you have something in mind just message me and lets create it together.
