Can you believe I have never made a crochet pumpkin until now! I’ve wanted to make one for years but never managed to fit it in.
This year I had the creative urge to design my own. I wanted them to have gorgeous texture but also be easy to make.
I chose the Suzette stitch because of it’s gorgeous texture and cozy feel and it’s such an easy stitch to do. I have two other cozy home decor patterns using this lovely stitch that you may also want to make as they co-ordinate very well with this Pumpkin crochet pattern: an easy Mug Cosy and matching Coaster. If you can make a single crochet (UK Double crochet) and a double crochet (UK Treble), then you can make the Suzette stitch, it’s that easy!
This pumpkin pattern makes a gorgeous home decor essential for Autumn/Fall. Finish with a cinnamon stick for a lovely aroma as well as a touch of rustic charm or with a small twig for simplicity. It is written in three sizes, with size small FREE in this post.
This pattern is written using US crochet terms.

If you would like to make all THREE sizes (as shown above) or just prefer to work with an ad-free, easy print PDF with additional photos for guidance, you can purchase it on Ravelry or Etsy below (includes two PDFs for US Terms and UK Terms).

Notes
- Turning ch does NOT count as a stitch
- The pumpkin is worked in the round as a tube, turning after each round, to avoid a visible joining line.
- Use stitch marker to mark 1st stitch in round if helpful.
- Stitch count is shown at the end of each round in bold.
- Check stitch count at the end of each row.
Gauge
Not important for this project. 2 Suzette stitch pairs x 3 rows = approx. 1”/ 2.5cm.
Special Stitches/Techniques
Suzette Stitch (also called Grit Stitch or Thicket Stitch) = a textured dense stitch made with both a sc and a dc in the same stitch, skipping the next stitch. After the first round of Suzette stitches, the stitch duo will always be made in the sc of the previous row. The 1st pair in the round are made in the joining stitch of the previous round.

How to Make the Pumpkin Shape
Using the starting tail, thread end onto a needle and weave through each ch of starting ch. Pull tightly closed. Secure and weave in end.
Stuff with toy stuffing and repeat with the tail of the final round. Before closing fully, insert cinnamon stick, and tightly close the hole around it. Secure yarn and thread end down through the hole and out of the base. Remove stick for now, while you continue with sewing.
Pumpkin Sections
*Bring yarn upwards on the outside of the pumpkin to the center hole, thread through a stitch and tighten the yarn to make the section visible. Bring yarn down through the center hole (avoid the central stuffing indent for the stick) and out of the center of the base, pull yarn to ensure the section is still visible, secure by threading through a stitch at the base, Repeat from * to make 6 even sections on the pumpkin. Secure the yarn on the base to finish and weave in end.
Attach Pumpkin Leaf Stems
Sew on spiral leaf stems by attaching to desired stitch on edge of the central hole on the pumpkin.
Position cinnamon stick in the center hole and secure with glue to hold in place if desired to complete the pumpkin.
